In a comprehensive study of Charters of Human Rights in other jurisdictions, Gareth Griffith found that Australia is the only western state without a Charter of Human Rights. The few countries without a Charter of Human Rights in any form were Australia, Bhutan, Brunei, and Burma.

The Canadian Bill of Rights Act, c44, 1960 was a statutory Charter of Human Rights that was superseded by the constitutionally-entrenched Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms .
